Hi, Home Schoolers!
We're so glad you stopped by! Our class is in the process of creating an online literary magazine that will be devoted to showcasing original works by YOU!!
Awkward Silence will feature the literary and visual arts created exclusively by home-schoolers. Have you written an interesting story or an incredible poem? How about an essay that just blew your history teacher away? Do you love to draw, take photographs, sculpt, or make animated videos? We would love to see what you have created and possibly put it in our e-zine! If you'd like to send us your work, read the instructions below to find out how! You can submit as many works as you would like. We will consider them all.
Getting Started
Do I have to be a home schooler?
Yes. Although we love students from all types of educational backgrounds, this magazine is designed specifically to highlight accomplishments by those in the home school community.
What kinds of work can I submit?
Any original work you have written or created. If you have written a poem, short story, or an essay, created a remarkable piece of art, taken breathe-taking photos, or put together an interesting video or film, then submit your work to our magazine. If YOU created it, we want to see it!
How do I submit my work?
Scroll down and fill out the submission form below and upload your work. You can email any questions to [email protected].
Is there a limit to how much I can submit?
You can submit as many pieces as you would like. We will consider them all.
Do my parents have to know?
Yes. We need your parents' permission to publish your work. You must include the email address of one or both of your parents in your submission.
What happens next?
We will send you an email telling you that we received your submission. After that, it may take a few weeks for us to get back to you. Please be patient!
When is the submission deadline?
The submission deadline is April 15, 2013. Don't be late!
A note to parents:
Our vision is to provide a platform to highlight the creative and academic work of home schoolers. We want to encourage young people to write and express themselves. If your child has something they want to share, we encourage you to help them prepare their work for submission. You may want to check their work for spelling and grammatical errors. We will definitely pour over and possibly publish their work! We have a very gentle policy when it comes to these submissions, so you needn't be concerned that your child will feel rejected. In most cases, we will give suggestions as to how children's work can be made better, with the goal of eventually publishing it.
We've been published! Take a look at our e-zine!

My Teacher Took My iPod
by Kenn Nesbitt
My teacher took my iPod.
She said
they had a rule;
I couldn't bring it into class
or even to the school.
She said she would return it;
I'd have it back today.
But then she tried my headphones on
and gave a click on Play.
She looked a little startled,
but after just a while
she made sure we were occupied
and cracked a wicked smile.
Her body started swaying.
Her toes began to tap.
She soon was grooving in her seat
and rocking to the rap.
My teacher changed her mind.
She said it's now okay
to bring my iPod into class.
She takes it every day.

The Lamb
~by William Blake
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life, and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Little lamb, I'll tell thee,
Little lamb, I'll tell thee:
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a lamb.
He is meek, and He is mild;
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Little lamb, God bless thee!
